Security for Small and Medium Enterprises

Without a doubt today’s business men and women are keenly aware of the risks of conducting their trade online, in whatever form. Everything from spam, viruses and malware through to denial of service, botnets and ransomware are liberally discussed in newspapers, television and radio.

There is only question that matters in all of this:

What are YOU doing to protect yourself?

South East London CyberSecurity (SELCS) is here to help you ensure you are doing all the right things to ensure your businesses’ safety. It is a not-for-profit venture; it is a collection of members from both SMEs and cyber security specialists, meeting and working together to ensure the protection of our businesses.

The Police National Fraud Cybercrime Reporting Centre has some great information to improve your personal online safety.

Working in conjunction with the UK Cyber Security Forum, SELCS has the backing of an organisation that has been built over the last two years through the efforts of several people working on security in the Malvern region of England (need I say more?). Their experience and skills, enhanced by other security members has been sought by many significant organisations including Central Government.

Bringing together small and niche cybersecurity businesses with SMEs interested in improving their security is a positive thing for both sides. Cybersecurity is not all about buying product to resist cyber-attacks; it is a combination of education, protocols for behaviour, and best practice. Without these technology can be bypassed and attacks will succeed.

There is a lot of relevant expertise in the UK that can help without breaking the bank, something essential to all SMEs whose main goal is to balance cost against risk.

There are currently more than 500 core members of UK Cyber Security Forum. It is envisaged that security companies in the South East of London, through the efforts of SELCS, will join the London Cluster of the UK Cyber Security Forum, thus drawing the strength of working together into this greater London area. This immediately gives member businesses access to the movers and shakers in Central London while continuing to focus on our local needs.
